SINGAPORE: As investigations are still ongoing, prosecutors have applied for an extension before going ahead with the trial of Fitriah, a 23—year—old Indonesian maid accused of murdering her 87—year—old employer.

In the meantime, the accused will be sent to the Changi Medical Centre (CMC) for a psychiatric evaluation, the court heard.

Fitriah, who looked dazed during the proceedings, will be appearing in court again on December 30 for a trial date. She is represented by lawyer Mohd Muzammil Mohd, who said he was hired by the Indonesian Embassy to defend her.

Fitriah’s employer, Madam Sng Gek Wah, was found dead at her Farleigh Avenue home at 3.40am on November 26.

Paramedics said the elderly woman had no visible injuries other than a cut to her forehead.

Fitriah, who had worked for Madam Sng for just six days, was said to have fled from the terrace house at about 3am. She was arrested at the scene the same day.
